Returning to prison, but this time as a staff member and not a prisoner, was daunting. I instantly tensed up as memories flooded back. But then I remembered why I was there: to work with Breakthrough Social Enterprise and use my lived experience to educate and empower the people in prison.

A Transformative Experience

I volunteered to deliver 3-6 hour sessions on project management, business acumen, and financial literacy. The experience was transformative for me in many ways:

• The Feeling of Imparting Knowledge: Sharing what I had learned was incredibly rewarding.
• Giving Back: Helping others who are in the position I once was felt deeply meaningful.
• Rediscovering My Passion: I fell back in love with the topics I was teaching, which made me reconsider my career path.

These experiences led me to shift my career away from project management and back to the public sector, where I could make a real difference.
